August 29, 2005, my life forever changed as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Katrina’s rapture left my home town of New Orleans, Louisiana devastated and destroyed within hours. Suddenly, I found myself in Austin, Texas deciding which plan of action I would take to achieve stability and normality for myself and family. It is amazing how with a blink of an eye my entire life, plans & focus began to travel a road of unknown territory. As I pondered this situation, I realized that whatever adversity that life throws your way, whether it is work, family or a natural disaster, planning and organization is key to going through the situation. Once it was inevitable that I would not be able to return home to New Orleans, no time soon, I than had the challenge of registering my kids in school, filing insurance claims and seeking housing. Since I am a highly organized person, I traveled with part of my personal files which contained birth certificates, social security cards, kid’s immunization & school records as well as my home owners & flood insurance policies. I did not have to waste time wondering who and how to get in touch with my insurance companies or how to obtain proper identification to enroll my kids in school. Once I had to immediately evacuate, important personal papers were within hand reach because I had developed a home filing system. I can not stress the importance of planning, being organized and managing your time now to prepare for when you don’t have time.
Out of this horrific situation, I created & became CEO of Soaring to Achievements, Inc. a coaching practice teaching small business owners, entrepreneurs and professionals Time Management, Organization and Customer Service to increase productivity in their businesses & personal lives. Soaring is a characteristic of an eagle, when a storm comes, an eagle does not seek shelter to avoid the storm rather it flies to a higher aptitude and soar over the storm, not allowing the storm to hinder its progress or destination. An eagle has vision, persistence, discipline and commitment, all the traits needed to be successful. I have decided to teach others to develop the traits of the eagle and began to soar! Helping others achieve success by unleashing self-imposed limitations gives me a surge of excitement. Those exciting experiences led me to my life’s purpose – Coaching!
Before becoming a coach, my background included fifteen years as an educator in secondary and post secondary arenas as well as workforce training & development programs, fulfilling the duties of various positions as Second Grade Teacher, Customer Service & Job Readiness Instructor, Placement Director, Senior Job Developer, Business Advisor and Program Coordinator. My employment history has allowed me the opportunity to train numerous youths & adults in academic enrichment, counsel and coach students and businesses on Goal Setting, Time Management, Organization, Customer Service & Life/Career Development skills. My commitment to adult learning is a life long passion and much of my work focuses on developing not just work skills but also personal competencies and strengths.
I am a graduate of University of New Orleans & Coach Training Alliance receiving a BA in Mass Communications & Coach Certification and a Nationally Certified Professional in Customer Service from the NRF Foundation. |
